Photo Scan App by Photomyne

What it does

Photo Scan App by Photomyne turns a phone camera into a tool for digitising printed photographs. It is aimed at people working through family albums or boxes of old prints, rather than users looking for filters or a general-purpose camera. The app can detect and crop multiple photos in one capture, reducing the need to photograph and trim each print separately. It also supports scanning negatives and slides, and can add voice notes to images.

What it asks of your device

The main requirement is a phone camera and enough storage for the digital copies you create. Good lighting and a steady view of the prints matter: automatic edge detection can save editing time, but it does not remove the need to check that a scan is framed and legible. The app’s restoration and colourisation tools are relevant to faded or black-and-white images, though results may vary with the condition of each original.

Where it fits

Compared with scanning prints one at a time with a basic camera app, Photomyne is built around batch capture and automatic cropping. A flatbed scanner may suit someone prioritising a controlled scan of a few important images; this app is more convenient when speed and working through a larger collection matter. It is a focused photo-archiving option, not a replacement for broader document-scanning tools.

Audience and track record

It is best suited to people who want to preserve physical photos on a phone and are willing to review the resulting digital files. Photomyne Ltd. publishes the app in the Photography category. Its 4.2-star rating from about 46,000 reviews and 5,000,000+ installs indicate an established audience, but those figures do not guarantee that its processing will suit every collection.
